Сенатор Елізабет Уоррен вимагає розслідування діяльності компанії SpaceX та її керівника Ілона Маска, який заблокував Україні розширення дії супутникової мережі Starlink для атаки на російські військові кораблі біля узбережжя Криму.
“Конгрес має розслідувати, що тут сталося, і чи є у нас адекватні інструменти, щоб переконатися, що зовнішня політика проводиться урядом, а не одним мільярдером”, – заявила демократ від Массачусетсу у понеділок у Капітолії.
Як член Комітету збройних сил Уоррен вважає за необхідне перегляду відносин компаній Маска з Міністерством оборони США.
Глава збройних сил Джек Рід, демократ від Род-Айленда, також сказав, що він стурбований цією проблемою з огляду на те, що саме уряди традиційно контролювали супутники, а президенти вирішували, що з ними робити.
Рід сказав, що відбулися дуже позитивні зміни, коли SpaceX знизила вартість доступу до космосу, у тому числі для запусків національної безпеки, але він (Маск) не може бути останнім словом, коли йдеться про національну безпеку.
Самому Маску прийшлося підтвердити, що його SpaceX зірвав українську спецоперацію у Криму. SpaceX не активувала Starlink у регіоні на запит української влади.
Відповідні служби України розслідуватимуть інцидент із відключенням Starlink під час української атаки в районі тимчасово окупованого Криму.

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding an investigation into the activities of SpaceX and its CEO Elon Musk, who blocked Ukraine from expanding the Starlink satellite network to attack Russian warships off the coast of Crimea.
“Congress needs to investigate what happened here and whether we have adequate tools to make sure that foreign policy is run by the government and not by one billionaire,” the Massachusetts Democrat said Monday at the Capitol.
As a member of the Armed Forces Committee, Warren considers it necessary to review the relationship between Musk’s companies and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Army Chief Jack Reid, Democrat from Rhode Island, also said he was concerned about the issue, given that governments have traditionally controlled satellites and presidents have decided what to do with them.
Reid said there have been very positive changes when SpaceX has lowered the cost of access to space, including for national security launches, but he (Musk) cannot be the last word when it comes to national security.
Musk himself had to confirm that his SpaceX disrupted the Ukrainian special operation in Crimea. SpaceX did not activate Starlink in the region at the request of the Ukrainian authorities.
The relevant services of Ukraine will investigate the incident with the Starlink disconnection during the Ukrainian attack in the area of temporarily occupied Crimea.
